Miss Annie Set for 2011-2012 Winter Season!
The cool breeze of autumn signals a change in seasons and winter's approach has the crew of the Miss Annie hard at work preparing for the upcoming sailfish season! After a long and busy summer, Captain Matt and the crew have the Miss Annie rigged and ready for what is expected to be another banner year for the popular high-flying sailfish which winter along Florida's famed Gold Coast. Last year's winter season was one for the record books and those fortunate to get in on that memorable winter sailfish bite aboard the Miss Annie were right in the thick of the action. Double-digit release days were common as the brutal winter to the north and its accompanying cold fronts pushed pods of sailfish down the south-Florida coast in numbers not witnessed in many years. Numerous repeat clients spent enjoyable days on the water with us honing their billfish angling skills and we also had the pleasure of guiding several anglers to their first billfish catch while also providing a memory that will last a lifetime. The 2011-2012 winter sailfish season has already gotten off to a fast start. The Miss Annie has been sailing regularly and Captain Matt reports multiple release days have already been recorded by anglers on many trips. In between sailfish bites some impressive numbers of tasty gaffer–sized dolphin up to 20 pounds have also been decked.
Miss Annie is once again docked at the venerable Sailfish Marina on Singer Island in beautiful Palm Beach Shores, Florida where often only minutes after we pull away from our slip on the Charter Dock we can drop the 'riggers and start fishing in the cobalt-blue water of the Gulf Stream. Here sailfish often can be seen tailing down sea as they chase schools of flying fish and other surface-roaming baitfish. Live baiting with kites is a deadly method for scoring with these feisty billfish where we use light-tackle for the billfish often called the "Swashbuckler of the Seas." Their high-flying leaps are often accompanied by drag searing runs which test an angler's patience, finesse and skill. Other species often encountered during the winter season include dolphin (mahi mahi), bonito, sharks and barracuda. Day and night swordfish trips are also available and we're less than 20 miles from prime swordfish grounds. The best of this action occurs around the full moon and we'll drift the deep water of the fertile Gulf Stream that's home to these elusive gamefish which have made a dramatic comeback along the Straits of Florida in recent years. Few gamefish in the ocean rival the strength, stamina and speed these magnificent fish display, 'nor can they match the quality they provide at the dinner table.
For those seeking an island getaway that's just two hours away it's only 55 miles from Lake Worth Inlet to West End in the Bahamas where you'll find beautiful accommodations and lots to do ashore in addition to some great fishing as well. Winter is prime time to catch big wahoo there utilizing high-speed trolling tactics and these drag screaming brutes are knockdown brawling fighters that provide excellent table fare as well. If you prefer to experience the areas fine bottom fishing deep dropping for yellow eye snappers and queen snappers is a productive alternative to the action offshore. Let Miss Annie's expert crew custom plan an overnight or extended fishing vacation to fit your needs and budget in the beautiful Bahamas!
