2010 East Coast US Tour
Welcome to another exciting year aboard the Miss Annie as we kickoff the 2010 sportfishing tour! The entire crew has been busy since you last heard from us as the winter sailfish season is now in high gear and we’ve been fishing daily out of the beautiful Sailfish Marina on Singer Island in Palm Beach County, Florida. Here, the Gulf Stream is closest to any shore in all of North America and its cobalt blue water literally brushes along the coast just three miles from shore. Whether you’re an experienced billfish angler looking to brush up on your skills or a novice in search of your first billfish, it’s tough to beat Palm Beach during its venerable winter sailfish season.
The brutal cold that’s gripped the entire country so far this winter has sent the mercury plummeting here in south Florida and created ideal conditions for red hot sailfish action as pods of spindlebeaks follow the bait supply south in the Gulf Stream. Conditions vary from day to day but since we’re out on the water almost daily we can track the movement of these gamefish which has helped us rack up double-digit sailfish release trips! In between sailfish bites mahi-mahi will often grab live baits affording some fine table fare for our clients. January is also the height of the sailfish tournament season here on Singer Island so if you’d like to test your tournament skills against some of the best crews in the business, gives us a call to check availability of the Miss Annie and her tournament-winning crew for these prestigious events. If the same weather pattern continues with cooler temperatures and northerly winds we can expect the sailfish action to continue well into February. As the spring season arrives sailfish will begin their northerly migration and we look for an increase in mahi-mahi action with an occasional kingfish and blackfin tuna as well during March and April. For those looking for a truly unique experience Miss Annie is also available for daytime or nighttime charters where anglers can test their skill against one of the true denizens of the deep, the broadbill swordfish. These magnificent gamefish have made a remarkable comeback thanks to the elimination of commercial fishing off south Florida several years ago and broadbills up to several hundred pounds have become quite common.
With its miles of beautiful white sand beaches, gin-clear water and luxurious resort marinas offering all amenities one could desire, the Bahamas provide an ideal setting for a spring vacation. Although we’ll be keeping the Miss Annie at Sailfish Marina during the months of April through June where we’ll continue to charter for all the inshore and offshore gamefish the area has to offer that time of the year, as our schedule allows we’ll be heading over to the Bahamas where we’ll be focusing on wreck, reef and bottom fishing for a variety of tasty species including numerous species of grouper and snapper as well as muscle-testing species such as cobia, sharks, amberjack and the toothy barracuda. As the weather warms we’ll hit the offshore grounds along several productive areas which have produced for us year after year in search of blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish. For those who desire to catch a billfish Grand Slam, which includes one of each of these billfish on the same day, you have as good a chance as anywhere when visiting the Bahamas this time of year. The spring season also sees an influx of large mahi-mahi, wahoo and yellowfin tuna to keep you busy between billfish bites.
As we work our way north for the summer season, the Miss Annie will once again stop at historic Charleston, South Carolina for the month of July where we’ll be chasing schools of yellowfin and big eye tuna, blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, swordfish, wahoo, king mackerel and mahi-mahi. The South Carolina Aquarium, Civil War Walk, Ghosts and Legends Walk, Carriage Tours and Historic Homes Tours, plus its Waterfront Park, award winning restaurants and fabulous shopping all add to the enjoyment of a fishing vacation to the Low Country of South Carolina in early summer.
It’s tough to beat the offshore fishing off the mid-Atlantic coast in August and September thanks to the gamefish-rich canyons off its coast so the Miss Annie will once again call on Ocean City, Maryland for the latter part of the summer season where last year the white marlin bite was literally white hot during our stay. Here too, big eye and yellowfin tuna plus an occasional mahi-mahi and wahoo are caught as well blue marlin and sailfish. Dubbed the “White Marlin Capital of the World,” Ocean City, Maryland is an old fashioned seaside resort city that’s family oriented with clean, safe beaches, an old fashioned boardwalk and accommodations to meet every need and budget. Many great restaurants can be found here and the area offers numerous championship golf courses to test your skill plus endless shopping at the nearby Ocean City Outlet Center.
As fall approaches, the Miss Annie will make its way south stopping again at Charleston for the month of October to catch the fall sailfish bite before returning to Sailfish Marina for the winter season. 2010 looks to be a busy season for us and we’ve planned our tour to coincide with the best fishing each destination has to offer. The Miss Annie is a 52’ Viking sportfishing machine that’s equipped with twin 1360 HP MAN diesel engines that provide safe and reliable power to get us to the fishing grounds fast. She’s equipped with the latest navigation, communication and fish finding electronics as well as a full compliment of Coast Guard required gear including an EPIRB and life raft. There’s a fully equipped galley, air conditioned salon with color television and three staterooms plus two full bathrooms for your comfort. We use custom built rods by Bobby Boyle and Shimano reels and all tackle is professionally maintained by our tournament winning crew.
We hope you’ll consider joining us as we travel along the Atlantic coast this season in search of the regions best inshore and offshore fishing action. We accept all major credit cards and welcome families and corporate accounts as well as clubs, social and civic groups looking for an enjoyable day on the water. We can also recommend lodging for those looking for an extended stay at one of our destinations.
