7.21.08 — Inshore Trip
Trolling for bass was pretty good fishing considering how late in the season it is. Trolling up at the Rocks proved effective, catching 7 bass, a couple 30 + pound fish. The water temp up there was still cool with a surface temp of 58.5 degrees and a bottom temp in the low 50’s. The fish are there, but it was an early bite for the bass. The best part about that program was zero bluefish bites. Seems like the blues have pushed offshore to spawn in deeper water, as we have reports of the fish being in the mudhole and further offshore. After that bite shut off we put out the fluke gear and made a few drifts. Ended up catching 25-30 fluke in a matter of an hour and had 6 keeper fish over 18″ As usual, there were a lot of fish around 17 1/2″-17″ Around a dozen sea bass were mixed in, but all short ones.
