2007 Central Abaco Champions

The sea conditions east of Great Abaco, Bahamas were anything but comfortable the entire week of Leg 3 of the Bahamas Billfish Championship presented by Rolex. Despite heavy seas and twenty-five knot winds, the field of fifty-four proven sport fishermen caught 93 qualified billfish during the four-day Central Abaco Championship hosted by Treasure Cay Resort & Marina.

From the very outset of the tournament, the blue marlin action was impressive with 21 of the 61 blues caught on the final day. Barry Weshnak’s Miss Annie, from Allenwood, New Jersey managed to catch and release five of the blue marlin and two white marlin to finish with 3,400 points and First Place.

By week’s end, the weary anglers caught 61 blue marlin, 25 white marlin, 6 sailfish and one spearfish. All catches are validated using time and date stamped digital images. Affidavits signed by all participants fishing on each team further confirms that the fish was released in accordance with IGFA and Bahamas Billfish Championship rules.

First Place honors brought the Miss Annie a Bodo Muche bronze trophy presented by tournament sponsor Bertram Yacht. Miss Annie was also the Top Release Team for the week and received a Randy Buck original bronze trophy sponsored by Murray Products, High Seas Technologies and PipeWelders. The team also received an AlgaeSep Filtration System from Walker’s Engineering and a gift certificate from Roffer’s Ocean Fishing Forecast.
